It is terrifying to know about the abortion restrictions implemented by US states hampering the reproductive rights of its citizens.
States like Alabama passed a draconian bill that allows punishing doctors who perform an abortion, making people travel to other states for abortion. Currently, some states provide funding for pregnancies due to rape or which pose a threat to life. Implementing TRAP laws that demand licensing as a requirement makes it a legal barrier for abortion service providers to help needy ones.
The new laws also added parental consent as a criterion for aborting teenage pregnancies. The irony about Anti-abortion laws is that they may reduce abortions but increases the maternal mortality rate. In one way or another, people are losing their lives. Many people stick to religious beliefs and patriarchal norms, making a woman miserable with an unwanted pregnancy.
These laws affect the lower class people badly as they are not privileged to pay, travel, and face the law for their rights. Moreover, the LBGTQ community also faces a severe blow from these laws as it neglects primary reproductive healthcare. According to a mass poll conducted, about 73% of Americans want to legalize abortion.
Thousands of people took part in rallies and protests against the Anti-abortion laws to protect their reproductive rights. Several unions, including American Civil liberties, Women’s welfare NGOs, etc., fight back the lawmakers to take back such laws that downcast human life.
